GEO 303 Volcano Exercise
Answers to the following questions are located at the home
page
Instructions:
With one or two other members of your lab:
- Open the link to Volcano World
- Choose "Volcanoes of the World"
- Choose "What's Erupting Now"
- Click on one of the red triangles.
Answer these questions on a piece of paper. It is best to turn it in before you leave lab.
- List the names of your partners on the paper.
- What is the name of the volcano or eruption?
- What activity is recorded, and when? Is it active now?
- In a sentence, cite an interesting or important feature of
the activity or eruption.
- Now, consult the map on the wall of your lab room, "This
Dynamic Planet," and choose the geologic setting of the eruption.
Is it:
- on a ridge (a divergent plate boundary indicated by a solid red line)?
- near a trench (a band of quakes, some of them deep, near or at an ocean margin, forming a convergent plate boundary)?
- or not near either a ridge or trench, but well within a plate (like Hawaii)?
- or is there no clear choice, and if not, briefly tell why?
