2.

Raster Calculator fails when using an equation that contains a grid file that is located on a network drive.

Symptom:
A Raster Calculator equation with correct syntax fails to execute and doesn't create a new grid when the grid(s) used in the equation is (are) stored on a network (e.g. "y:") drive.

Solutions:
1) Within ArcCatalog, Copy and Paste the grid(s) you wish to use in the calculation into a folder on a local drive (e.g. c:).  Within your ArcMap document, reset the data source for the grid in question (right click on the grid name in the TOC, select Properties>Source>Set Data Source...) to the new file.  Refresh the view.  Redo the calculation, first being sure that the working directory for Spatial Analyst (under Spatial Analyst>Options) is also set to folder on a local drive.
2) Alternatively, within the equation give the entire path and file name (e.g. [y:/gis/data/grid1]) for the grid that is being used in the calculation.

Note that neither of these solutions will work if the path to the grid contains folders with spaces in their names, or if the names exceed 13 characters!
